Five pupils from Whetstone Field Primary School enjoyed a special visit to Walsall FC’s training ground on Thursday 15th October, meeting the first-team squad and interviewing Roman Dixon and Tai Sodje about Black History Month.
The visit took place ahead of the Saddlers’ Black History Month fixture against Salford City on Monday 26th October, linking with the EFL’s Together Against Racism campaign.
The pupils were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the training ground, watching the squad prepare for their upcoming fixtures before meeting the players and manager Lee Grant.
They then sat down with Roman and Tai to ask their Black History Month questions to the first-team duo.
The experience created a unique opportunity for discussion about Black History Month and its importance to players and highlight their experiences on themes such as racism.
The visit also connected with the Together Against Racism campaign, which brings clubs, players, supporters and communities across the EFL together to challenge racism and promote inclusion throughout the game.
Supporters can look out for the feature airing on ITV’s EFL Highlights Show on Saturday 24th October, ahead of Walsall’s Black History Month fixture against Salford City two days later.
Walsall FC Foundation would like to thank Whetstone Field Primary School, Roman, Tai and everyone involved in welcoming the pupils and making the visit possible.
